Travelsphere Cares is pleased to introduce a new addition to the Best of the Deep South tour from September 2024, with a visit to the Stax Museum - part of the Soulsville Foundation which supports young students of the Stax Music Academy.
This community tourism experience includes a visit to the Stax Museum of American Soul Music, which is run by the Soulsville Foundation that also operates a music academy set up to support young people in the area. The museum is home to interactive exhibits and over 2,000 items of memorabilia for you to discover. Travelsphere travellers will also be treated to an exclusive live performance from graduates of the Stax Music Academy followed by a chance to meet them and learn about the impact it has had on their lives.
When you book The Best of the Deep South tour, you are supporting both the Soulsville Foundation and the Stax Music Academy.
Since 2000, the academy has been serving at-risk youth across Memphis with mentoring support, high-quality education programmes, and performance opportunities, backed by the rich legacy of Stax Records which has been home to artists including Aretha Franklin and Booker T.
Together the foundation and the academy are improving the community of Memphis, seeking to change people's lives through music. Thousands of youths have already benefitted from the project, which:
When I was in Memphis last year, I visited Stax Museum of American Soul Music, a little gem of a museum that is located on the site, and tells the story of Stax recording studio, famous for artists like Otis Redding, Isaac Hayes, Staples Singers, Sam & Dave and loads more. Stax Museum is run by the Soulsville Foundation that also operates a music academy set up to support young people in the area. And during our visit we were treated to a live performance by a couple of young people from the academy - it was fantastic!
